Meet the Team @ Crabtree

Samantha AdamsMy name is Samantha Adams and I am the Manager at Safe and Sound Nursery on the Crabtree Road. I have worked at Safe and Sound Nursery since it first opened in August 2007. I worked as a supervisor within the Toddler Room for the last 8 Years and in July 2015 was promoted to Manager. I was honoured to have been offered this post and have welcomed the new challenges this entails.

Throughout the last 9 years I have been given opportunities to further my knowledge of child development by attending various training such as The Eager and Able to Learn programme designed for 2 year old, The Media Initiative Programme in Respecting Differences, Nutrition Matters, Food Hygiene and Safety Level 2, Fire Safety and Managing and Leading a team within Early Years.

I am also trained in Paediatric First Aid, Child Protection and am the Designated Officer within Safe and Sound Nursery. In 2014 I decided to further my qualification by undertaking a level 5 in child care leadership and development and with the support of Angeline and the staff I completed this in January 2016.

I am also mum to Charlie aged 2. Charlie has attended Safe and Sound since he was 14 weeks old and to him the girls at Safe and Sound our a second family. The care Charlie receives is second to none and as I returned to work early this was very comforting to know. Safe and Sound has not only become Charlie’s second family but it has become mine as well, together we all share the same passion, drive and enthusiasm for childcare.

Amanda LaveryMy name is Amanda Lavery and I have worked at Safe and Sound Nursery since October 2007.  Whilst starting with no formal child care qualifications, I had the experience of being mum to 2 children, Caitlin now aged 16 and Ben aged 13 years.  Since working at Safe and Sound I have been encouraged to gain valuable qualifications and am pleased at having qualified with a diploma in Child Care (Level 3) as well as Paediatric First Aid, Designated Officer, Child Protection, Food Hygiene Level 2 and numerous other day and night-time training courses provided by Early Years.

I am based in the Pre-School Unit where I love working with the 3-4 year olds preparing them for their move to primary school.  It is very rewarding to watch each child’s confidence build and learning progress through play, and to help and guide them through this process.  Safe and Sound is a very homely place to work and the safety and happiness of the children is paramount.

I am a keen artist and enjoy sharing my skills with the children.  It’s a rewarding experience seeing the children progress and being so happy and proud of the work they produce.  The staff work well as a team and everyone is very helpful and supportive to each other and we have built some strong relationships.  The commitment and work put into everyday activities makes Safe and Sound Nursery a cheerful and friendly home.

Niamh LavertyMy name is Niamh Laverty and I work within the toddler room at Safe and Sound.  I first came to the Nursery as a student in March 2011 and quickly realised that my talents and skills lay within nursery life. During my placement at Safe and Sound I gained valuable experience and knowledge while working with children aged 0-11years.  When my placement came to an end I was offered a permanent job on completion of my National Diploma in Early Years (level 3). Throughout my time at Safe and Sound I have been given many opportunities to develop my knowledge of child care specifically with the 2-3 year age group and have recently attended the new media initiative 2 year old programme – Eager and Able to Learn.  I am also trained in Paediatric First Aid, Behaviour Management and Child Protection.  Safe and Sound offers a home from home environment where staff and children work together in harmony.

Sarah McKeeMy name is Sarah McKee and I have been working at Safe and Sound since 2007.  For the past few years I have been supervisor of the after-school room.  I enjoy working with this age group as the children are full of fun and imagination.  The nicest part of my job is to witness the close friendships that are formed amongst the children and staff.  We very much value the children’s opinions and ideas and encourage them to help us plan their learning topics, the activities and organise exciting and fun trips out.

For the past 3 years I have also undergone a new job role as Pre-school Leader.  This job requires a lot of planning and preparation to meet the requirements laid down by the Curricular Guidance for Pre-School Education as set by the Department of Education.  Each day is packed full of fun and exciting activities for the children whilst at the same time they are learning through play.

The best part of this role is observing the progress with each individual child and preparing them for primary school.  I also have a close working partnership with parents through informal chats, team interviews, monthly newsletters and open mornings ensuring parents are always informed and up to date with their child’s learning.

Safe and sound nursery has a homely atmosphere for children and staff.  The staff members work closely together as a team to create a nice friendly environment for all.
