Babies are cared for in a beautiful bright playroom with a staffing ratio of 1:3. It has an adjoining changing area with baby shower. The separate sleep area which has a viewing window within the room and baby monitor ensures each child can rest and sleep safely and calmly.
Patio doors offer direct access to a soft-surfaced enclosed play area where our babies can play outside. Activities are varied and include trikes, tractors, slides and baby swing. Our nursery teachers also enjoy taking the children in buggies for walks to visit horses, cows, sheep and lambs, exploring nature in the surrounding countryside.
Each day the children engage in “messy play” with materials such as paint, sand, water and soil. This is a fun-filled, sensory experience for this age group.
As the child develops, a whole new world of adventure, discovery and imagination begins to open up for them. They can walk and investigate without help. Much of the equipment and materials are therefore stored within the child’s reach and are consistently in the same place. This becomes familiar to them as they move about and explore, promoting their creative and problem solving abilities through first hand experiences.
Although staff will always take time to discuss your child’s day, information about their appetite, digestion and sleep patterns are recorded daily in your child’s personal diary. These have become a precious keepsake for many parents.
[/tab][tab id=2]This room is a beautiful bright spacious area with lots of natural light. The inquisitive mind of a two year old knows no boundaries and the playroom is designed with this in mind with low level shelving housing a wide range of appropriate equipment to satisfy the curious needs of these independent thinkers. With a staffing ratio of 1:4, each key-worker knows the value of being close to the visual level of the child to support and extend their choice of activity and take the lead from each child’s individual interests. Our staff are acutely aware of the importance of good listening skills and the toddler’s need to practice emerging speech. Therefore, although at this age a lot of the play is physical, each key-worker encourages speech development at every opportunity. Outdoor play is an essential part of the daily routine and the safe enclosed state of the art outside playground has been purposefully designed and equipped for the 2 – 3 year old age group. This contains sand pits, soil pits, climbing wall, slide, decking den, and much more. The children are given every opportunity to explore this area freely and often enjoy picnics while watching the neighboring cows in the

Our Pre-School Room is a large bright, spacious room fully resourced to cater for this age group. We follow the Department of Education for Northern Ireland, curricular guidelines for pre school education. This is divided into six areas of learning which are:-

Staff in this room operate a Key Worker System, this enables them to closely monitor each child’s progress and development and thus help the children to make confident steps in learning. Staff plan and review activities monthly to ensure children’s individual needs are being met. The children proudly display their work on the walls and around the nursery and love the opportunity to recall and discuss what they have done.

Safe & Sound’s After-school club is a home away from home. We drop-off and pick-up from all local primary schools, including Ballynahinch, Spa, Drumaness, Loughinisland, and Tyconnaught. Our qualified and experienced staff are in attendance to oversee a selection of indoor and outdoor activities, which the children will actively take part in planning. Staff will provide the opportunity for on-going project work, craft, sports, board games, and quiet time activities, along with computer work and a supervised homework session.
The children also take part in regular cookery, lessons using many of their own home grown produce.
Children are constantly under supervision and are able to make friends and play happily in a safe and fun environment.
SUMMER HOLIDAY SCHEMES!
During the summer holidays Safe & Sound provide their exciting 8 week programme of planned and unplanned events, trips and visits based round a different theme for each month.
The children get the opportunity to develop new skills, have fun and make friends and with trips to various places such as Belfast Zoo, the Adventure Playground, Beach days, camping days, picnics in the barley field, and the good old weekly barbecue there is definitely no time for children to get bored during a Safe & Sound summer!
Safe & Sound also offer care for other school holidays and closure days.
